When Life Feels Like Lack: A Resurrection Reminder for Moms to Rise

When Life Feels Like Lack: A Resurrection Reminder for Moms to Rise

On Resurrection Sunday, I walked past décor I had gifted my father-in-law years ago—two simple, nautical-themed mirrors hanging by the lake, each holding a verse.

But this time…

It wasn’t just décor.

It spoke.

What once felt like a thoughtful birthday gift suddenly carried a deeper, all-encompassing meaning—as if God was gently whispering, just like He did to Moses at the burning bush:

“Look again.”

The Waves Were Always Part of the Story

At first, the nautical theme simply fit the lake.

But now I see…

It was always pointing to something more.

Because isn’t that just like God?

Long before I ever wrote Olivia Braves Attacking Waves or Owen Braves Distracting Waves

Long before this new journey with Gloria Joy Scalise of Glo4God creator of the Glo4God Discipleship Planner

He was already weaving the message:

Life comes with waves.

Some attack.

Some distract.

But neither are meant to define us with lack!

Because light always overcomes darkness.

The Mirror Message: Identity Before Destiny

As moms, we often look in the mirror and see what’s lacking.

And in that Resurrection Sunday moment

But these mirrors didn’t just reflect an image…

They reflected truth.

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I lack nothing.” — Psalm 23:1

A reminder that in every wave, we are not truly without—as long as we are being led.

Led by our Shepherds’ light, which causes us to RISE & SHINE despite...life’s waves!

And in that Resurrection Sunday moment

peering into those two mirrors, this truth rose up in me:

Identity is the doorway to destiny.

When we know:

  • Who God is to us (Identity)
  • Who we are (Identity)
  • Why we are alive (Destiny)
  • How we are uniquely created to show up in this life… (Destiny)

Everything shifts.

The waves may still come—The waves will still come…

but they no longer have the power to take us under into darkness

of lack…as they once did for Gloria and me. (eventually we will share transparently)

Because we are anchored in His loving light. (Romans 8:31-39)

From Surviving Waves to Making Them

So many of us feel it:

The attacking waves of fear, hardship, and exhaustion.

The distracting waves pulling us away from what matters most.

But what if we remembered this?

We don’t just endure waves… we make waves.

Some waves attack.

Some waves distract.

But we make waves by following our Good Shepherd’s track.

So when the dark waters rise—

God lights our path wit His loving eyes.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8).

And because of that…

We lack nothing we truly need…

And when we live anchored in that truth—

We don’t just rise in His resurrection light…

Final Thoughts

That mirror reminded me:

You are not defined by what the waves say about you.

You are defined by what the Way Maker says about you and what you are created to do.

And when you see that clearly…

You don’t just receive His light—

✨ You rise and release it.

Identity leads to Destiny!

So let’s rise, mommas.

So our children can shine.
